Twelve months to self-sufficiency!

This fully updated second edition of the popular Weekend Homesteader series includes exciting, short projects that you can use to dip your toes into the vast ocean of homesteading without getting overwhelmed. If you need to fit homesteading into a few hours each weekend and would like to have fun while doing it, these projects will be right up your alley, whether you live on a forty-acre farm, a postage-stamp lawn in suburbia, or a high rise.

The February volume includes the following projects

* Plant easy berries
* Stock up on dried goods
* Prepare for an emergency with backup lighting
* Set homesteading goals

The second edition has been revised and expanded to match the paperback, with extra photos and feedback from weekend homesteaders just like you, plus permaculture-related avenues for the more advanced homesteader to explore.

I downloaded this book since it was a freebie one day but I would gladly pay for the information included in it and am planning to download the other Weekend Homesteader volumes by this author. Attempting to change from being an avid yet lazy consumer to a person who lives off the land is a huge change in a way of life yet it's one that people nowadays are doing in droves. Survivalists and hippies have more in common than they thought, I guess, but I digress. The information presented in this book was very accessible and encouraging, allowing the reader to progress at their own pace and comfort zone. The instructions were both clear and realistic. The rewards presented made doing your own gardening and harvesting and living a more frugal lifestyle seem like an actual reward, not a punishment. This was a great way to learn more about the lifestyle without a huge investment in time or money and I highly recommend this to fellow beginners.

Weekend Homesteader February edition by Anna Hess Cookbooks Food Wine eBooks Reviews

This is a great book for those of us who are trying to live a bit more deliberately, a bit more self sufficiently. Simply divided into one project per weekend, this book (and the other in the series) are a great way to get started in your homesteading adventures!
This simple read was just the motivation I needed to take my efforts to the next level. I was already looking forward to starting strawberries this year, but now I think raspberries will be doable for us also. I currently purchase some items in bulk, but the author gave me a few tips I can start implementing in that area, including what additional food items I should be stocking. And I had not even begun to think about lighting issues or long-term planning...I look forward to reading other issues and tackling more projects! Perfect for beginners.
Found I may have been doing thanks a lot harder than necessary and also not do some necessary things in order to be a successful homesteader a must read even if your only a weekend warrior.
I live Downunder and your February is our August, but when you work that out - everything else is a breeze.
So many nice reads, good advises all over the place and the price is, for delivered magazine, next to nothing.
Would love to read more from you guys, as we are now finishing the cycle of full year
ABSOLUTELY LOVE THESE MAGS! I now have the complete set ~
I put them in my Fire and use them as BEDTIME READS!
I love the concept of this book and series. simple little things to get back to basics in life. I really enjoyed the section on starting your own berries. The section about apprenticeships was interesting also. to much of the way things used to be are getting lost. If you want to be a weekend farmer or at least enjoy some of the simpler things in life, you will enjoy reading this and save money also.
The author's style seems very practical and down-to-earth. I particularly like that she discusses her own mistakes and lets new homesteaders know up front what to avoid or do differently than she did. I was glad to read her advice on planting fruit in this month's volume. Because of it, I changed some expectations I had for my garden and altered my plans. I also found her ideas about breaking down long-term goals for your homestead to be realistic and easily manageable.
