This is written by a pharm tech school teacher, and is a fantastic study guide. It may be all you need, except in the area of Math. If you also need help to get up to speed with algebra, you'll need a more basic math book along with it. Fortunately, the author also produced a great math book to accompany it that is available to buy as a workbook or as a FREE PDF download. One thing to be aware of with this book is the small size, Probably convenient for some, but challenging for me. It's 8.3" X 5.8" inches, similar to a desk dictionary, and it doesn't stay open on a flat surface. However, all things considered it's a good value for what's included at the price. As a high school Pharmacy Technician teacher, I found this to be an excellent study resource that addresses the changes to the PTCE. Before 11/13, students preparing for this exam would spend a great deal of time memorizing drugs and learning proportional math. The new test is expansive. Without a good resource, it will be difficult at best. This book did a great job at reviewing topics from all testable domains. Taking the updated exam for myself made it clear to see the value of this book. You will still need to know your math, but the book does a great job of covering other topics like medication safety and pharmacy law and regulation. Use this book, use the PTCB blueprints themselves and use the internet to teach yourself concepts that you are not familiar with. I am confident that this will help to improve our certification rates.
This publication is an outstanding resource offered at a reasonable price to help you prepare for the PTCB national pharmacy technician certification examination. The author has closely aligned the content of his book with the new PTCE blueprint implemented on November 1, 2013. The chapters are very thorough covering in detail the knowledge required to become a successful pharmacy technician. Two ninety question exams with answer keys offer an excellent simulation of the actual certification test. To help guide you in your job placement, there is an alphabetical listing of the state certification requirements at the end of the book. Additional resources are also available on the author’s Internet website. I have been certified since 1999, currently teach pharmacy technician students and highly recommend this publication.
After skimming this book, I could not believe it was assembled by a Pharmacy Technician. Being a Pharmacists nearly 20 years with over 10 years of academic expertise, I'm impressed with the layout of this book. While the size of the book is smaller that I'd like, the content and organization of the content are exceptionally done. I hope to be able to contribute the next issue. The author, Sean Parsons, has done a marvelous job condensing so many complicated concepts and learning objectives into a smartly developed study guide. Anyone using this study guide, after having completed an in-depth academic program will greatly benefit from using this book in preparation for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Examination.
After studying this book for 3 months I took the certification test and it did not match what was reviewed in this book. I realize it would not match perfectly, but I truly felt lost. Invest in a different study guide, you'll be glad you did!
I really found this book to be helpful with my review for the Technician certification exam. This book wasn't hard to understand and the math review was excellent. I would recommend this book to others who are looking to review a few topics on or even learning for the first time. It had review questions in each chapter and included free online practice questions.
